My role as a nutritional consultant is to inspire healthy change in my clients, and with my knowledge and resources, I offer guidance and support.  Change doesn’t happen over night but given the right tools, my clients can gradually form new habits and start living healthier lives.  It is ever so rewarding to follow a client as they transition into the healthy and vibrant person they want to be. 

One of my Waist Watchers Weekly clients is approaching the end of the program. She has accomplished so much and I am so proud of her!  I told her that if her food journal were color coded, it would look like a rainbow…that’s how fresh she is eating nowadays!   I asked her to think about the following statements, and while she wishes to remain anonymous, she agreed to share her answers.

How has my lifestyle and health improved?

  • I feel healthier.

  • I feel stronger.

  • I move faster.

  • I don’t feel sick like I did before…with stomach pain, ulcers, sinus infections, headaches, and GERD.

  • I know that my risk of cancer goes down as I become healthier.

  • My food taste better!

  • I feel that I can think better and remember things a bit better...less brain fog.

  • My outlook on life is different, better! It has changed because my lifestyle has changed, and there are things I don’t want to do anymore.

  • I don’t go to the doctor as often.

  • I don’t take as many medications.

 What I know about successful weight management?

  • I know that losing weight is only half the battle, and that maintaining my new weight is the other half!

  • I know that if I weigh myself once a week I will be successful in maintaining, as I won’t let it get out of hand.

  • I know that if I continue to exercise I will be better at maintaining my weight loss.

  • I know that if I pay attention to how my clothes feel I will be able to maintain my weight – instead of buying bigger clothes.

  • I know that if I eat a balanced diet I will be successful in weight management.

  • I know that I need to keep a food journal as it helps me to understand when/why I am overeating.

  • I know that if I focus on being healthy I will be successful in weight management.

  • I know that if I pay attention to my portion sizes, I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I eat slowly, chew my food, and pay attention to how my food tastes, I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I don’t allow ‘trigger events’ like medical and personal issues to derail me, I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I am consistent with my diet during the week, and only allow for occasional "treats" on special occasions, then I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I change my home and work environment (where there is always food) and make healthier choices in those places, I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I limit alcohol intake I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that the work that I have put into losing weight (developing a fitness routine, seeing a health specialist, and surrounding myself with people who are healthy) will help me be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that if I consume a higher protein and lower carbohydrate diet, and consume healthy fats and eat more fiber, I will be less hungry, and therefore I will be successful in my weight management.

  • I know that eating less sugar will help me be successful in my weight management.

What I would like to see improve going forward:

  • I’d like to sleep better!

  • I would like for my energy levels to go up even more!

  • My back pain has improved but I’d like it to be better.

  • I’m sensitive to gluten and I know that it must go completely!

  • I still have to get sugar out of my diet!
